How We Got Here
Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) was founded in 1969 during the height of the Chicano Movement — a pivotal era when Mexican American communities across the Southwest organized for equal rights, access to education, and economic justice. Inspired by leaders such as Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, this grassroots movement in Arizona grew into one of the region’s most influential nonprofit organizations, now serving multiple states, including New Mexico.
CPLC’s expansion into New Mexico continues the same legacy of advocacy, resilience, and community empowerment that has guided us from the beginning. From day one, we have worked alongside local families, leaders, and partner organizations to remove barriers and deliver vital resources to communities in need. Whether through affordable housing, early childhood education, workforce development, or access to food and essential services, our mission has always been to create opportunity where it’s needed most.
As New Mexico’s communities have grown and changed, so too has our approach. Yet our purpose remains the same: to uplift lives and strengthen communities — one program, one family, and one neighborhood at a time.
Our Continued Mission
At CPLC New Mexico, our mission is to empower individuals and families through direct services and community-based programs that foster self-sufficiency, dignity, and lasting opportunity. We are dedicated to creating pathways to a better quality of life by addressing core needs such as housing, education, workforce development, and access to essential services.
As part of this commitment, we proudly operate HELP New Mexico (HELPNM), a key partner in delivering programs that focus on early childhood education, nutrition, and family support across the state. Together, we strive to ensure that every New Mexican has the resources and opportunities to thrive.
